The granddaughter of Ringo Starr is following in the musical footsteps of her granddad and dad, Zak Starkey (former drummer for Oasis and current drummer for The Who), and has formed a band of her own. Tatia Starkey however, is not playing drums a la grandpa Ringo and daddy Zak, but instead is playing bass. The group, called Belakis, is based in London and has already played a number of gigs and have a few more booked around town.
RINGO’S head has regrown after it was chopped off a hedge sculpture of the Fab Four.
The topiary version of the Beatles at Liverpool South Parkway station was vandalized in April. Ringo’s figure was the only one of the four to be targeted.
It was apparently done in revenge for comments the real Ringo made in a TV interview when he said he missed nothing about his home town.
A spokesman for Merseytravel, which paid for the artwork by Italian sculptor Franco Covill , said they had a wirework head in stock and gardening experts have threaded topiary through the frame to re-create Ringo’s missing head.
Merseytravel chief executive and director general Neil Scales said:
“We are delighted to welcome Ringo back.”
It is understood new security measures have been introduced to deter attacks, although Merseytravel declined to comment.
Ringo Starr says that he’s already in the middle of a new album, which will be a follow-up to this year’s ‘Liverpool 8′. Ringo says,
“I’m sort of doing it, not in big chunks. I started a bit last year, late last year, and I did a bit (in) January and February of this year, and I did some in April. In May I did a bit more. I’m doing it slow and easy, and hopefully I’ll finish it by next year.
Ringo also said that he’s been working on the album alone and inviting people to play on it- He declined to mention any names at this point.
Starr has put the album on hold, however, while he tours with the latest edition of his All-Starr band this summer.
I hope the new album is better than ‘Liverpool 8′. I wasn’t too crazy about that one, but I still love ya, Ringo!
Former Beatle, Ringo Starr says his new way to write songs is while he’s on the treadmill!
He revealed that he found inspiration for some new songs while he was at the gym. He said:
“When it’s time to record, I find that getting on the treadmill brings on the endorphins, and the songs just start coming. I wrote a lot of songs on the treadmill. It’s certainly a better way than sitting up late at night smoking.”
How cute and certainly a healthy way to do it too. Keep it up too Ringo, we want more!
Last night, on his birthday, Ringo Starr was on Larry King talking about how all he wanted for his birthday is for people to mark it as a Peace & Love day.
It goes without saying that Larry King, had some stupid questions, here are just some of them:
KING: Do you like country, do you like rock?
STARR: I like it all.
KING: Jazz?
STARR: No, no, I do. I like it all. It’s such a broad band of music that I love. You know, everybody knows I love country. I did a country album. I’ve always loved rock, and I love the blues. You know, and I like pop and I like classical.
Do you research Larry! Everyone knows that Ringo LOVES country music!
KING: What are you going to do for 69?
STARR: Well, I’m not talking to you. Could you stress my age enough, for Christ’s sake? How old are you, 102?
For more annoying questions, including the most annoying question about a reunion with Paul, go here to read the full transcript.

The Blog Meanies would like to wish our favourite peacenik, Ringo Starr, a very happy birthday. As per Ringo’s wishes, we will pause at noon, make the peace sign, and either say, whisper, or think “Peace and Love”, as per Ringo’s wishes. Won’t you join us?
Now of course, it’s hard to imagine this gesture or any gesture doing much good, considering the mess the world is in these days, but we’ll give it a try. After all, it’s a nice thought, isn’t it? Besides, it’s Ringo’s birthday and it’s his wish, so what the heck.
Government red tape, and not a broken-down truck as previously reported, was the real reason behind the cancellation of the Ringo Starr All-Starr Band show in Bethel, New York, according to Edgar Winter. Winter, who is playing on the tour with Starr, explained,
“What I heard was that there was some kind of bond that you’re supposed to put up for the equipment going across (the border) and there was some like, new form — it’s just some ridiculous technicality that somebody decided to enforce. They decided to hold up their truck. It’s always like, the luck of the draw, you know, when you’re going through customs; are they going to be easy, or are they going to be tough?”
That’s so true, you just never know. A lot depends on the mood of the particular border officer. They can be really nit-picky if they choose to be.
Well, it’s official. After months of debating the issue, Ringo’s birthplace of 9 Madryn Street, Liverpool, (featured in his latest single ‘Liverpool 8′) will not be granted “Listed” status. Last year, someone made an application to have his home listed (meaning a place that had historical meaning) because it was under consideration to be demolished for plans to renovate the old neighbourhood. As much as I love Ringo, I do understand the reason behind the decision.
A report said:
“It is not associated with the band as a performance, practice or recording venue, or where they lived or composed as a band”
Paul McCartney and John Lennon’s childhood homes are part of the National Trust tour, which means they’re open to the public for viewing and tours are conducted there on a daily basis. If you ever visit Liverpool, they are a must see. You will hear details of some of the Beatles songs that were composed there, and actually see the spots where they were sitting when those songs came to be. A goose bump inducing experience if there ever was one!
As reported before, on July 7th, Ringo’s 68th birthday, Ringo is asking everyone to stop at noon and say “Peace and Love”. Go to Ringo’s website to watch his Peace and Love video update.
Ringo Starr will be selling some of his own artwork to raise money for a charity known as the Lotus Foundation. Anyone ever hear of that one? The sale will take place starting tomorrow at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, Florida. Each item will be hand-signed by Ringo, plus anyone who buys $2950 worth of stuff will receive a free ticket to Ringo and the All Stars’ show on July 3 at the hotel. In addition, those same folks, who obviously have deep pockets if they are willing to cough up that kind of moola, will have the opportunity to meet Ringo at a VIP reception earlier in the day. Wow….a free ticket plus the “opportunity” to meet Ringo! How generous! I’m sure they’ll be lining up for miles for that one.
