Last Recording Of Billy Preston On ‘Dirty Heads’ Album

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Billy Preston`s last studio session was for California band Dirty Heads. On September 23, Dirty Heads will release `Any Port In A Storm` featuring Preston`s last ever recording.

The band`s vocalist Jared Watson says,

“That was like a pipe dream for us. We couldn`t believe it when we found out he had heard our music and wanted to play on it. We flew out to Arizona, where we got to meet him and watch him record his tracks. It was surreal.”

Billy Preston died in June 2006. The Texan born keyboard player was the only person ever to receive a joint credit on a Beatles record. `Get Back` was released as The Beatles with Billy Preston.

Preston also recorded for The Beatles Apple Records label and released his best known song `That`s The Way God Planned It` on Apple.

Beatles Producer George Martin Honored Last Night in LA

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

Sir George Martin

Sir George Martin, the classically trained producer who was in charge of all of the Beatles recordings throughout their career, was honored last night the Recording Academy’s Grammy Foundation.  With more than 50 chart-topping hits, Martin is the most successful producer of all time.  I would say this honor is befitting of him indeed!  Some famous attendees included Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison.  Olivia admitted it took hubby George awhile to warm up to his producer…

“Well, I think, they were so young and George, he always said that he was always like the adult in the room. And, you know, you look now, and there wasn’t that much age difference. But, you know, they were just four scruffy guys. But he enabled them to manifest their music for what they heard in their heads.”

Sir George spent the better part of his speech paying homage to the 4 lads that were so important to his career and his life…

“Yoko and Olivia are here tonight,” Martin noted. “Paul and Ringo can’t be here, because they’re doing their own tour. They’re workaholics. I can’t understand why, but they are. I’ve been so lucky to work with so many wonderful people, and great talent all my life. … I miss a lot of people. I miss so many people who have died on me. God knows I’m old enough. But younger people have left the scene, and I miss them, as you do, great people. John and George particularly.”

What lovely sentiments coming from a lovely man.  Cheers! to you,  Sir George Martin for all you have accomplished during your distinguished career.

Paul McCartney And Ringo Starr Didn’t Attend Neil Aspinall’s Funeral

Monday, April 7th, 2008

Today was the funeral of fifth Beatle Neil Aspinall who died 2 weeks ago.

Yoko Ono, Barbara Bach, Stella McCartney, George and Giles Martin, Pete Townshend and Beatles first drummer Pete Best attended the funeral.

Pete Best’s brother, Roag Best, is the son of Neil Aspinall. Since Pete Best was fired from The Beatles, over 40 years ago, he was not in the same room with the fab four. My guess is that the two remaining Beatles, Paul and Ringo, knew that Pete will be there in support of his brother and therefore they did not attend.

Paul did visit Neil, in New York City, few days before he died.

R.I.P Neil Aspinall!
