Pink Floyd-Themed Cruise Set to Sail in 2009

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

Pink Floyd will be the subject of their very own themed cruise, even though no members of the band will actually be on board. The Carnival cruise ship will sail from the port of Miami to the Bahamas on May 1, 2009. Over the course of the three night cruise, fans will be treated to Pink Floyd games, trivia, parties “special guests” and to shows by the Pink Floyd cover band “Think Floyd USA”, including a full performance of Dark Side of the Moon. Now this cover band isn’t just any cover band. They have supposedly opened for Roger Waters and have received “personal acclaim” from David Gilmour himself.

This sounds like it could be interesting, but is there enough Pink Floyd “stuff” to keep people entertained for three days?

‘Dark Side of the Moon’ On Billboard Charts Over 31 Years

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Pink Floyd’s ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ is still a strong seller. It’s now at over 1,615 weeks (31 years) on the charts. The album currently appears on Billboard’s Catalog chart, rather than the Top 200 Albums Chart, which angers Pink Floyd bassist/singer Roger Waters. He says,

“The only reason it’s not on the charts anymore is because they changed the rules. It’s not allowed to be on the charts. Billboard introduced a rule which said no album that’s been out for more than 10 years is allowed to appear in the 200 because the business decided that the chart is a selling tool and they don’t need that tool to sell ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ or ‘Hotel California’ or the other classic albums. So they thought, ‘Well let’s make a separate chart for those and not allow them to have space on the real chart’ because those albums would all still be there.”

Rare Bowie/Floyd Material To Be Released?

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

David Bowie

A vault of unheard material from artists such as David Bowie, Pink Floyd, and Queen is due to be released after record label EMI struck a deal with the BBC.

The extremely rare recordings have been stored in the BBC vaults for years but lack of defined ownership has prevented release. The recordings were not known, until recently, to belong to either the artists’ label EMI, or the BBC, who recorded the tracks.

The deal struck between EMI and the BBC means that fans can look forward to the release of the unheard material by a huge number of EMI artists over the next few years. I’m particularly excited by new Bowie and Queen stuff. I’ll keep you posted on this!

David Gilmour’s Glastonberry Snub

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

David Gilmour’s offer to play at this year’s Glastonbury festival in the UK was snubbed.

The Pink Floyd star was keen to perform at the annual music extravaganza, but organizer Michael Eavis reportedly told him he wasn’t interested

The line-up at this year’s Glastonbury has been heavily criticized, with the event failing to sell out as it has in recent years.

The lukewarm response has been blamed on the appearance of rapper Jay-Z, who has proved to be a controversial choice as headliner.

Oasis star Noel Gallagher said:

“If it isn’t broken then don’t fix it. If you start to break it then people aren’t going to go. I’m sorry, but Jay-Z? No chance. Glastonbury has a tradition of guitar music… But I’m not having hip-hop at Glastonbury. It’s wrong.”

Coachella Offers $10,000 for Waters Missing Flying Pig

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Roger Waters is currently searching for his great pig in the sky. The Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival is reportedly offering a $10,000 and four lifetime festival tickets in exchange for the safe return of the inflatable pig that escaped its tethering and floated away during the former Pink Floyd frontman’s headlining set this past Sunday night, April 27.

Anyone with information can contact festival organizers at lostpig@coachella.com.

How sad - he lost his flying pig!
