Bowie Signs Petition Against T-Rex Tribute Band

Monday, June 30th, 2008

David Bowie

Stars including David Bowie have signed a petition against a T-Rex tribute group marketing itself as the long-gone Seventies band.

The impersonating band have called themselves T-Rex. Now a petition to halt the band has been signed by 500 people including rocker David Bowie, former T-Rex drummer Bill Legend, and record producer Tony Visconti, who worked with T-Rex in the studio.

Visconti says,

“For a bunch of old guys to go around calling themselves T-Rex is outrageous. The only link they have to the original is through one member, Paul Fenton, a second drummer with T-Rex for a short period of time. This sets a dangerous precedent. What’s next? When Paul McCartney dies, will a group emerge calling themselves The Beatles?”

The manager of the tribute band, Barry Newby says,

“This band was created to perform Marc Bolan’s great songs. We never had any intention to upset anyone. We perform, in our opinion, the most dynamic T-Rex show in the world.”

Rare Bowie/Floyd Material To Be Released?

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

David Bowie

A vault of unheard material from artists such as David Bowie, Pink Floyd, and Queen is due to be released after record label EMI struck a deal with the BBC.

The extremely rare recordings have been stored in the BBC vaults for years but lack of defined ownership has prevented release. The recordings were not known, until recently, to belong to either the artists’ label EMI, or the BBC, who recorded the tracks.

The deal struck between EMI and the BBC means that fans can look forward to the release of the unheard material by a huge number of EMI artists over the next few years. I’m particularly excited by new Bowie and Queen stuff. I’ll keep you posted on this!

David Bowie’s Music to Hit London Theatre Scene

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

David Bowie

Finally, after all these years, David Bowie’s extraordinary music is being developed into a stage production. The 1976 movie, The Man Who Fell to Earth, will be produced for London’s West End by director Peter Schaufuss. Even though Ziggy had been approached before about turning his music into a play, he scoffed the ideas because he was afraid the productions wouldn’t do him justice.

I say smart man! I’m glad he’s finally found a vehicle he can be comfortable with, and I wish him much success in this new endeavor. Oooh, I can’t wait to see this, someday!

Keith Richards Doesn’t Care For David Bowie’s Music

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Keith Richards
Keith Richards has claimed that he doesn’t really like David Bowie’s music. The Rolling Stones rocker said the only Bowie track that he truly enjoyed was the singer’s 1972 hit ‘Changes’. He told Uncut,

“It’s all pose. It’s all f*****g posing. It’s nothing to do with music. He knows it too. I can’t think of anything he’s done [other than ‘Changes’] that would make my hair stand up.”

Wow, just Wow. Keith Richards seems extra-opinionated lately. I was under the impression that they were all ‘mates’. Doesn’t sound too friendly toward Bowie though.

David Bowie Cannot Stand Daughter’s Poor Taste in Music

Monday, April 28th, 2008

David Bowie and Iman

David Bowie reportedly refuses to stay in the same room when his seven-year-old listens to her teen pop music. The legendary rocker has attempted and failed to teach Alexandria about what good music (alternative sounds, steering her clear from the top 40) is all about, according to his supermodel wife Iman. Iman said:

“Two weeks ago Alexandria was listening to Hilary Duff songs. David just leaves the room. He thinks she should be listening to underground music.”

Poor guy! I hope his daughter grows up to appreciate his amazing music one day.
