Saturday, August 16th, 2008

Bono

Tracks believed to be from U2’s new album have been leaked on the internet.

A fan who was reportedly passing Bono’s villa in France’s Cote D’Azur recorded a series of unheard songs and has since posted them on YouTube.

Four tracks have appeared online, although the sound is barely audible, including ‘Sexy Boots’, which is thought to be the band’s comeback single taken from their forthcoming album.

The new album is reportedly titled ‘No Line On The Horizon’ and will be released in November.

EDITED TO ADD:  By the time I went over there for a second listen, the audio had been disabled.

Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page To Perform In Olympics Closing Ceremony

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Led Zeppelin guitar legend Jimmy Page is set to be part of the closing ceremony of the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing on Sunday July 24. Page will perform with British pop sensation and Simon Cowell protege Leona Lewis.

Selecting someone to perform with one of the most recognizable rock legends of all time may have presented a challenge for the people that are charged with making such decisions, but Leona Lewis is likely to be very widely recognized as well, considering that her album reached all the way to number one on at least three continents and nine countries.

This is all part of the Olympic tradition, where the country that is set to host the next Olympic Games performs an 8-minute show during the closing ceremony. With London set to host the 2012 Summer Games, Jimmy Page and Leona Lewis were selected to represent their country, and give the world a chance for a sneak peek at the kind of spectacle the world might expect from the U.K. in 2012.

I’m loving every minute of the Olympics (except Beach Volleyball), but I can’t wait for the closing ceremonies. If it’s anything like the opening ceremony, it should be spectacular.

Macca’s Jude Song

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

Paul McCartney

Sir Paul McCartney played the harmonica for a boy named after one of his songs.

Paul was in Amarillo, Texas, during his US road trip along the iconic Route 66 with girlfriend Nancy Shevell, when a male fan approached him with his four-month-old son Jude.

When the Beatles legend was introduced to the baby he took out his harmonica and played ‘Hey Jude’, which he wrote in 1968.

Record store owner Don Dunavin told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper:

“I was holding Jude and Paul walked right in front of us. I took two steps forward and shook his hand. He went to Jude, grabbed his hand and started talking to him. After we told him his name he said, ‘I’ve got something for him. Jude was smiling at him. I told my wife to get the camera out and he stopped. He said, ‘Please, no pictures.’ But then started playing some more.”

What a cute story!

Former Publicist Sends Heather Mills Bill For $168K

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Heather Mills McCartney

Heather Mills has been slapped with a bill for $168,800 for publicity services.

Michele Elyzabeth, who quit working for Paul McCartney’s ex-wife last month following a heated phone call with the activist, has now sent Mills a bill for services rendered.

“As this personal and business relationship has come to an end, I am hereby requesting all previous fees, which were deferred until such time that you were financially able to fulfill our verbal agreement,”

Elyzabeth wrote in a letter addressed to Mills.

In July, Elyzabeth told a source,

“I worked for free because she told me she had no money.”

Now, with their relationship over, Elyzabeth is asking to be paid in full by the woman whose split with McCartney left her nearly $50 million richer.

I don’t think Elyzabeth is wrong for wanting to be paid. After all, Mills just recently bought a luxury apartment on Manhattan’s posh Upper East Side for $5 million.  Pay your bills, Heather!

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Bono

This could be the greatest comment on RollingStone.com ever:
U2 Bono was reading Rolling Stone’s reviewer David Fricke’s review of the new reissue of ‘Boy’, and was moved to respond. For Bono’s comments, go here.

I just LOVE that man! He’s so articulate (and sexy).

Paul McCartney’s Road Trip

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Paul McCartney and new girlfriend Nancy Shevell are enjoying a summer road trip together. The couple left Paul’s New York home last Thursday, July 30, and have been traveling U.S. legendary Route 66 in a classic 1989 Ford Bronco. News of the trip emerged after Paul posed for pictures with a group of fans at a service station in Springfield, Illinois on Saturday after traveling almost 1,000 miles since setting out. The trip has been planned in great secrecy, with Paul, 66, and Nancy, 47, telling just a few friends.

One fan, CJ Lowder, said:

“They looked totally in love. Nancy jumped at the chance to take a picture of Paul with us. They told us they were on a trip and going to St. Louis before heading west. No one could believe it was really him - he was so laidback and ordinary.”

I somehow think that Paul and Nancy are not the least bit worried about the outrageous cost of gas.

Beatles’ ‘Let It Be’ Will Be Released

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Contrary to published reports last week, the Beatles ‘Let it Be’ will eventually be released on DVD — but nobody knows when. It has been confirmed with Apple officials that there are plans to release the movie, but no date has been discussed. ‘Let it Be’ won the Academy Award for Best Music Score as well as a Grammy Award for Best Original Score Written for a Motion Picture or Television Special. In 2003 the Beatles released ‘Let it Be…Naked,’ a version of the ‘Let it Be’ album produced by George Martin, before the tapes were turned over to Phil Spector for ‘tweaking’ in 1970.

U2 Warns Fans About Fake Concert Tickets.

Monday, August 4th, 2008

The Edge

From U2.com:

Just a note to correct reports that tickets are becoming available for planned U2 shows.

The reports are mistaken, there are no tour dates for the band at the moment - so please don’t buy tickets for U2 shows you see advertised.

You can be sure any future live announcements will be made on U2.Com as soon as they are confirmed.

I hope they tour again soon………I’m dying to see them again. One of the best concerts I’ve ever attended.
