Paul McCartney Is Pissed At McDonalds

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

Paul McCartney

A certain McDonalds restaurant in Liverpool has riled up Paul McCartney and rightly so.

As we all know, Paul is a staunch vegetarian and rejects anything having to do with meat and/or meat by-products, even wearing shoes that are made out of vegetable products.  Imagine his outrage when he found out that a McDonalds in his hometown of Liverpool was hanging up pictures of The Beatles inside their establishment.  Actually, he’s reportedly “furious” over McDonalds using the pictures in their attempt to “flog burgers”.

Geoff Baker, Macca’s spokesman had this to say about the meaty McDonalds mess..

“What sort of morons do McDonalds think Beatles fans are? It’s ridiculous and insulting to use images to peddle hamburgers. Fans should boycott McDonalds - and not just in Liverpool.”

PETA has even stuck their two cents in, urging people to ditch the Big Macs and choose McDonalds veggie burgers instead.  I didn’t even know they had veggie burgers on their menu!

Of course there’s an explanation for all this hoopla.  A McDonalds spokesperson has said that the pictures hanging in the restaurant were put there to…

“acknowledge the outstanding contribution The Beatles made to both local and global culture”.

Now I can see where they’re coming from, but c’mon.  They should know, as does any Beatles and Paul McCartney fan, that he’s a strict vegetarian and why the hell would he condone his image hanging in a place that’s all about meat.

Yoko Ono Drops Copyright Lawsuit

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

Yoko Ono and EMI Records have dropped a lawsuit against Premise Media over the unauthorized use of John Lennon’s song Imagine.

A documentary entitled ‘Expelled:  No Intelligence Allowed’ which is about the theory of intelligent design, used a 15 second clip of the song,  irking Yoko.   Now the New York State Supreme Court has denied a motion to prevent the film from being shown and Yoko and EMI Records have dropped their claim of copyright infringement.

Anthony Falzone, who is the executive director of Stanford’s Law School Fair Use Project and lead counsel, said about the case…

“The right to use copyrighted material to criticise it is essential to free speech and public debate, and that’s what was at stake here. We think it was clear from the beginning that our clients had every right to use the Imagine clip as they did, and we’re happy we’ve vindicated that right.”

Well, you win some you lose some, but something tells me this isn’t going over too well with Yoko.

Glastonbury Festival Snubbed Pink Floyd

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

David Gilmour is pissed, and rightly so.  It seems that the huge outdoor music event held in England, the Glastonbury Festival, turned their noses up at David’s request for Pink Floyd to play a set there this past June.

Richard Wright, Pink Floyd’s founding member who passed away in September, wanted to play an outdoor festival as one of his last wishes, but the Glastonbury organizers would have nothing to do with them.  Says David…

“We weren’t able to do that due to all sorts of strange reasons, which, again, is a sadness.”

An organizer of the festival told the BBC that she was “upset” to hear Gilmour’s remarks, but couldn’t put them in at such short notice without having to yank a headlining act.

What a bunch of crap.  How can you turn down Pink Floyd???   I doubt the headliners had a musical reputation and outstanding history like Pink Floyd does.  That is no way to treat musical legends, now is it?

Bob Dylan Reveals His Biggest Influence

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

Bob Dylan

Legendary cultural and musical icon Bob Dylan has revealed something nobody has ever known before.

Giant music store HMV has a campaign right now called My Inspiration, in which artists reveal some of their favorite lyrics.  A song written by Scottish Poet Robert Burn’s, ‘A Red, Red Rose’,  has apparently had a huge effect on Bob’s life, more than any other.  Who would’ve thought, eh?

The director of the Centre For Burns Study at the University of Glasgow, Dr Gerard Carruthers, believes the song to be one of the most romantic ever.

Dylan has a new album coming out on Tuesday, October 7th, entitled ‘Tell Tale Signs’.

Paul McCartney Gets Romantic In Paris

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

Paul McCartney

Paul McCartney and his love Nancy Shevell were spotting out and about in Paris yesterday, strollling arm and arm.   He did something as simple as buy flowers from a street vendor and plopped them in a lowly bottle of mineral water.  Now how cute is that I ask you?   He surprised her with the flowers when they lunched at Laperouse in Paris.

It seems that Nancy is making an effort to please her man.  Her steak dinners have gone out the window in favor of veggie meals and even her political views are starting to change.    She’s softened on the Republican party and is leaning towards more liberal thinking, just like Paul.  Now THAT’S serious!

Oh btw, Paul and Nancy are in Paris right now to attend a fashion show from the collection by his designer daughter Stella McCartney.   It sounds like an absolutely perfect week-end to me….strolling around Paris, arm in arm with Paul McCartney.  Some people have all the luck, don’t they?

Paul McCartney Lets Heather Mills Have It In A New Song

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

Well, I wonder what took him so long?  Paul Mccartney  has finally cut loose on Heather Mills, his ex-wife that raked him over the coals in a recent divorce settlement.  Seems he’s written a new song, a little ditty entitled “Nothing Too Much, Just Out of Sight”.

The track will be featured on his latest album coming out in November,  ‘Electric Arguments’ a dance album penned with his side gig The Fireman.  A line from the track, which I personally love and I think it’ll really hit home with Ms. Mills, goes something like this…

“And you have money/ And no manners.”

Isn’t that just so beautiful?  Poetic, even.

The Fireman’s new CD, along with producer The Youth, will be the first album of theirs to feature vocals.

I am so looking forward to it!

Rare Pix Of The Rolling Stones And Led Zeppelin Set For London Exhibition

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

The Rolling Stones

If you’re going to be in London in November, it will probably be worth your while to stop into the RockArchive photo exhibition in Soho.  Along with never-seen-before photos of Led Zep and the Stones, you’ll get to ogle over shots of The Who, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley and U2.  Seeing the shots of U2 alone would make the trip across the Atlantic worth it.   Get yourself to 65 Broadwick in Soho next month for your chance to see this display of classic rock stars in their finest moments.

Does Mick Jagger Fancy A 23 Year Old?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Mick Jagger

This is rather disgusting, but true.  Mick Jagger has a new friend, and she’s young enough to be his daughter.  Nothing new there, I know.

His new friend is 23 year old Molly Miller Mundy, who is an interior designer in London.  It seems her daddy,  Mark Miller Mundy, is a big shot record producer who has worked with Mick’s ex-gal pal Marianne Faithfull once upon a time.   Daddy doesn’t seem to pleased about this blossoming friendship, stating…

‘I’m thrilled it’s not Paul McCartney.’

Hell, I think that girl would be so much better off with Paul!  Anyway, Mick seems to be a trifle nervous these days since his girlfriend of 6 years, American L’Wren Scott, who at 41 years old seems almost the right age for Mick, has hinted she wants to have a child with him, but not before they marry.  This doesn’t sound like it fits in with the Mickster’s future plans.  He already has 7 kids and I don’t think he wants another one, given the fact that he is 65 years old.

A friend of Mick’s said last night that the pair were “just friends” which could be very true.

‘There’s nothing to it. It seems Molly’s father made an off-the-cuff remark which has just been misinterpreted.  Mick has only known her through her father who is a record producer and her employer Nicky Haslam, who is a contemporary of Mick’s.’

Watch this space for further developments in the continuing saga of Mick Jagger and his overblown libido.

Led Zeppelin Tour News Is Nothing More Than A Rumor

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Robert Plant

Oh boy..here we go.  Remember the other day when it was posted here about Led Zeppelin reuniting for a tour in 2009?  Well don’t get too excited kiddies, because Robert Plant is here to squash those rumors and put an end to all of your giddy excitement.  How do his words “frustrating and ridiculous” sound?  Pretty awful, eh?

That’s exactly what he told an unnamed British tabloid last week.  In fact, he went so far as to say he had no plans to tour with anybody for at least two years after he finishes his tour of the USA with Alison Krauss, which is due to come to an end on October 5, 2008.

A statement from Plant himself says…

“Contrary to a spate of recent reports, Robert Plant will not be touring or recording with Led Zeppelin. Anyone buying tickets online to any such event will be buying bogus tickets.”

Ouch, that hurts!  Well one good thing that comes out of this, just think you can all save the money you would have shelled out for Led Zeppelin and put it towards the next U2 tour,  which I predict will be near the end of 2009.  Just a hunch, mind you.

Pink Floyd’s Ex-Manager Bryan Morrison Succumbs To Polo Injuries

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

The former manager of Pink Floyd, Bryan Morrison, passed away yesterday September 27, 2008 at the age of 65.  He succumbed to injuries received in a polo accident in 2006.  He had been in a coma since the accident and never woke up since sustaining a head injury at Windor, England’s Royal Berkshire Club of which he was a founding member.

Not only was Bryan the manager of Pink Floyd, but he was also responsible for managing and publishing for big name bands The Jam, The Bee Gees and Wham!  He also helped in putting Elton John on the road to fame.

Bryan Morrison’s death comes less than two weeks after Pink Floyd’s founding member Richard Wright lost his battle with cancer, also at the age of 65.
