The Who To Receive Kennedy Center Honors
September 16th, 2008Kennedy Center Honors will be bestowed upon The Who on December 7th after they finish up their tour of the United States. They will be the only musical act in the history of the ceremony to be awarded this most dubious distinction. The Kennedy Center Honors award lifetime contribution to artists from all genres of music, such as Frank Sinatra and Bob Dylan. Actors and directors are also eligible for such accolades and past winners here have included Robert Redford and Martin Scorsese.
Pete Townsend is thrilled for the honor, saying on The Who’s website…
“This is a great thrill. Since the Who began in the early ’60s we have loved American music and audiences and have made deep and lasting friendships with everyone involved in the industry there. Roger and I both feel our work in the United States has been as important as our work at home.”
I am just thrilled over this news! You can’t do much better than Kennedy Center Honors and I think The Who is extra deserving of this highest of achievements.
