Stella McCartney Unveils Her Adidas Collection In London

September 16th, 2008

This is Fashion Week in London and what better opportunity than this for Stella McCartney, fashion designer daughter extraordinaire of Sir Paul McCartney, to unveil her new collection of sportswear for Adidas.  Some of Britain’s Olympic athletes turned up to give Stella’s pieces a trial run.  Gymnasts did their bits on a balance beam looking oh-so-chic in cuffed grey cropped pants with a primrose tank top, while another athlete strode on the treadmill wearing a grass green mod tracksuit.  In Stella’s words…

“There’s just no need, for sportswear to be unattractive, Sportswear has always been just an afterthought, we’re expected to put up with ugly colours and nasty fabrics.”

Stella says she gets inspiration for her sportswear collection from her own couture designs as well as certain styling elements like ribbon trims, cut-out panels and filigrees,  and applies it to the sportswear.

The tennis collection is particularly cute, with the dresses having pointelle filigree trim at the hem.  Definitely cute enough to wear out on the streets!  All of her collection for Adidas is darling and actually, I wouldn’t want to wear it while I’m working out.  I’d be afraid to sweat on it and ruin it!
