Ray Davies Wants Kinks Reunion
September 23rd, 2008
Kinks Singer Ray Davies is all for a reunion of the band, but doesn’t know if it will happen. Ray says,
“The stumbling block is my brother because he was seriously ill recently and whether he feels ready to do it.”
Ray’s brother, guitarist Dave Davies suffered a stroke in 2004. The Kinks were one of the most popular ‘British Invasion’ bands of the 1960s, with hits including ‘You Really Got Me’, ‘Tired of Waiting’, and ‘All Day and All of the Night’.
Ray says he would only do a reunion if the band could do some new material. He’s not too thrilled with the idea of being another oldies act. He speaks about the band being “three quarters of the way there” for a possible reunion.
Rays went on to say,
“My pitch to the other guys in the band - because I’m really for it - was what would we have written if we hadn’t have had our first hit, ‘You Really Got Me’? What if we put ourselves in that situation, what would have happened? So I think new work is important for artists as they mature and get older.”
He added,
“The amazing thing is that The Kinks are the only band, of that period, where the only original members are still alive. “

Such a great and underrated band. Talent wise, Ray is up there with John, Paul and George, and I always loved the Kinks, so much more than the Stones. I’d pay to see this! Hope it happens.
