Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour Performs Musical Tribute To Richard Wright
September 24th, 2008Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour performed an emotional tribute on British television to his friend and bandmate Richard Wright, who passed away last week from cancer. The BBC will broadcast it’s show “Later…with Jools Holland” this Friday evening, showcasing Gilmour performing a rendition of 1968’s Remember A Day.
Richard Wright had originally been scheduled to appear on the broadcast with Gilmour, but was too ill to perform and had sent Gilmour a text message three weeks ago, telling him he couldn’t make the show’s taping.
David Gilmour had some very touching things to say about his friend…
“He was just a very self-effacing but very talented, lovely chap. We’re incredibly sad to have lost him.”
“He had some elusive quality, let’s call it soul, that glued the whole thing together. You notice it when it’s missing.”
Richard Wright appeared on every Pink Floyd tour and was absent from only one album, that being “The Final Cut” from 1983.
