Keith Moon Biopic On Hold

September 15th, 2008

Roger Daltrey says his film project, a biopic on the late Who drummer Keith Moon, has not moved forward because of lack of a good script.  Daltrey’s movie about Moon, the colorful drummer who died in 1978, has been in development for more than 15 years.  It had been reported that Mike Myers of ‘Austin Powers’ fame, was set to star in the film as Moon.

Daltrey says,

“They just don’t get it.  When you see the kinds of scripts they’ve got in mind to make, it’s sad.  I don’t want to do a ‘Carry On’ about Keith. If I can keep that from happening, I’ve done my job.”

It sounds like Roger Daltrey is intent on making a quality movie about his late bandmate.   I’m glad, since it would be simple to throw together some cringe-worthy  material and come out with a cliched, contrived film on Moon, whose wild antics are legendary in the world of rock.
