Paul McCartney And Other Veteran Rockers Campaign To Extend Copyright Laws
July 17th, 2008Paul McCartney, Roger Daltry and other veterans rockers are heading for victory in their campaign to extend the copyright on old recordings. Up until now, musicians, engineers and session players lose the rights to their recordings after 50 years. After that time, producers, performers and record labels are no longer compensated for sales or airplay. Today, the European Union (EU) devised a plan which will allow the artists to keep receiving royalties for 95 years. Wow, that seems like a long time, doesn’t it? It certainly will allow the artists’ families to reep the benefits of their fame, long after they’re gone.
