John Lennon’s Naughty Drawings of Yoko Sell for 50 Grand

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

John Lennon

A signed catalogue of pictures John Lennon drew of Yoko Ono (most of them quite risque), has sold for a whopping $50,000.  John had signed this catalogue for his The Bag One exhibition in 1972 for American journalist Sandra Shevey when she interviewed the couple for 12 hours in New York.  London police had originally seized these drawings back in January, 1970 on the second day of their exhibition, specifiically because of their naughty nature.  John had drawn these pics and compiled the photo album as a gift to Yoko to celebrate their wedding and honeymoon.

The lucky man (depending on how you look at it) who bought this catalogue is a British antiques dealer and Beatle fan, Tony Barnes, who says this…

“Lennon is one of the most famous names in the world, as well as being a pioneer of modern music. I have bought it to share with my children.”

Man, are his children in for a rude awakening.  I hope they don’t mind seeing John and Yoko’s private parts!

Ronnie Wood Loves Her

Ronnie Wood

Now this I cannot resist.  I know we here at BlogMeanies have been shoving the recent shenanigans of Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood down your throats, but I thought you’d all like to know that he has professed his love for his new girlfriend (and the empahsis here on the word “girl”), 20 year old Russian waitress Ekatarina Ivanova (heretoin referred to as whatsername).   In his own words, Ronnie is quoted as saying

“I love my wife - but I have a girlfriend and I love her too.”

He’s even blabbed this news about whatsername around the rehab facility, his home away from home for the next 6 weeks.   A source at the facility goes on to say…

“He is having open therapy sessions and explained he has a wife and a girlfriend and that he loves them both. It’s very strange but it’s just how he sees it. He’s looking a lot better and is very upbeat.”

Even though this sounds screwed up to many of us, I’m glad to hear that he’s looking better and is a little happier.  Yeah, he’s getting better but I’ll bet my ass his lovely wife Jo is ready to throttle him.  I wonder if she’ll welcome him back into the fold at the end of August, or tell him to go f*ck himself.  Stay tuned for this developing story!

Paul McCartney Shows He’s Serious About Nancy Shevell

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Paul McCartney brought his gal pal Nancy Shevell to Quebec City over the week-end when he played his tres bon gig there on Sunday.  Not only did he bring her, but he showed her off to everyone in his inner circle, ingratiating her with his pals and workassociates alike.  Everyone that is close to Paul has given Nancy the “thumbs up” and they say she and Paul get along fabulously.  A source close to Paul says..

“He is clearly very much in love and was as proud as punch that it went so well. It was plain to see that their relationship has come on in leaps and bounds. “Whereas his priority at first was to keep everything relatively low-key, now wants to show her off to all his pals. It went really well and Nancy was on sparkling form and charmed everyone.”

They were spotted in the bar of the 5 Star Chateau Frontenac Hotel cozying up with some vino and the day after the big show, riding bikes and sightseeing around picturesque Quebec City (of course this BlogMeanie didn’t run into them, damn!).

So it looks as though Paul may finally have found somebody worthy of him.  Nancy seems like a lovely woman and I wish the two of them much luck with their new romance.  Paul surely deserves it, don’t you think?

Former Promoter for The Beatles is Mad as Hell!

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Sid Bernstein, former promoter for The Beatles and other British Invasion acts, is pissed that he didn’t get invited to Billy Joel’s final concerts last week at Shea Stadium before it is to be demolished. Bernstein is the one who organized The Beatles famous concert at Shea in 1965, which was also the first held at the stadium. Now he wants to squeeze in one more concert, featuring a Beatles tribute act, Rain. Bernstein, 90, told the New York Daily News:

“Can I tell you how upset I am that I wasn’t invited?”

Bernstein said that he is in talks with the people who brought the Pope to Yankee Stadium, and “maybe” they’ll have the tribute band show at Shea. Ouch.

Paul McCartney Rocked The City of Quebec

Paul McCartney Concert

On Sunday evening, July 20th at approximately 9:15 pm EDT, Sir Paul McCartney took to the stage in Quebec City.  250,000 screaming, smiling, hysterical fans greeted him like he’s never been greeted before.  This BlogMeanie was lucky enough to be one of those 250,000 people and it’s a concert I will never forget.

This was my 7th time seeing my favourite Beatle and I believe it was one of the best I’ve seen.  The energy of the crowd and the energy of Paul combined made for one spectacular, unforgettable night.  He played for an incredible 2.5 hours, with a setlist ranging from Beatles classics to some of Paul’s newest hits.  For the complete setlist, check it out here.

The crowd was so well behaved and everyone enjoyed themselves immensely.  As I looked around at the massive crowd, I saw people of all age groups with tears in their eyes, but grinning broadly and singing the lyrics to every song.

For the wonderful people of Quebec, this is their first glimpse at Macca because he has never before played in that beautiful city.  And what a beautiful city it is.  The location, on the Plains of Abraham, could not be matched.  It sits atop a cliff overlooking the picturesque St. Lawrence River, and with a full moon glowing it was just so very magical!  Paul spoke his very best newly acquired French to his appreciative audience and it was met with loud cheers and 250,000 pumping fists.  Quite a sight!  When Paul took to the stage, he looked dashing in his navy blue suit with a mod looking embroidered shirt underneath.

When the heat got to be too much, he shed his jacket and played the rest of the show with the shirt sleeves rolled up.  His blue suspenders completed the look and I have to say he look mah-vellous.  His voice was in top notch form too, the best I’ve heard him in awhile.  Rusty, Abe and Brian were tight and you could tell everyone was having the time of their lives.  Enormous (and I do mean ENORMOUS) screens were set up all around the stage and at the back for the overflow crowd and it was wonderful to look up at those screens and see the emotion of Paul and his bandmates faces.

I think this night will stay with me for a long, long time and I feel so very lucky that I was able to be a part of this historic occasion, along with 250,000 other happy, appreciative people.  If anybody can make people Come Together, it’s Sir Paul McCartney.  I love you Paul, thank you for your beautiful music and for being true to yourself!

Will The Rolling Stones Tour Without Ronnie Wood?

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

The Rolling Stones

Could this be?  The Rolling Stones are actually thinking of going ahead with their next planned tour without their very much troubled guitarist Ronnie Wood.  GASP!!  While our favorite human woodpecker is whiling away his time in rehab once again (good for him, but doesn’t he get it yet??), the Mickster is busy planning the Stones upcoming tour of Europe without Ronnie.    A source tells the British newspaper the Daily Express

“What’s happened now is just something else and Mick and everyone can’t quite believe it. Mick is still dead set on going on tour and has even said that they will do the gigs without Ronnie if it comes to.”

The time is quickly approaching where Mick and Keith will become pensioners (GASP! again) and Mick feels that he’d like to hit the road one more time before his body cannot take it anymore.  If he waits for Ronnie to get  his shit together, that may never happen so I suppose Mick just feels they can do the tour with or without Ronnie.  Ouch! for Ronnie.  Cheers for Mick.

Paul McCartney Joins Billy Joel On Stage At The Last Shea Stadium Concert

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

Paul McCartney Concert

Tonight was the last concert ever at Shea Stadium. Back in 1965 The Beatles were the first to play at Shea Stadium and tonight, at the Billy Joel concert, Paul McCartney closed the show by performing: “I Saw Her Standing There” and “Let It Be”.

Also joined Billy Joel on stage, Roger Daltery who performed “My Generation” and Steven Tyler who performed “Walk This Way”.

What an amazing surprise that is that Paul showed up for that!

From New York, Paul is heading to Quebec where he is having a free concert on Sunday.
