Ronnie Wood Checks Himself Into Rehab

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Ronnie Wood

Well, thanks to a run-in with a little bit of wine, our favorite musical woodpecker, Ronnie Wood, has checked himself into a detox centre, can you believe that? Ronnie has been struggling with alcoholism for many years and was concerned he would miss him daughter’s wedding if he didn’t get treated for his problem. To play it safe, he admitted himself to the Priory Clinic in London. I have to give him alot of credit, that was such a smart move and I think it shows Ronnie’s really trying to help himself. I wonder what Mick & Keith think about that? Hmmmm…

The Lost Beatles Interview

Monday, June 30th, 2008

A canister of film that had been lying around for 44 years in a South London garage has been discovered by a film buff, and was found to contain an interview with The Beatles. The nine-minute interview took place in the studio of Scottish Television on April 30, 1964. It was thought to have been recorded in London and put into a canister and apparently forgotten about. Now stored safely in a professional archive, the film is said to be the earliest surviving long-form British interview with the band. In other words, it is rare. The interview offers revealing insight into the songwriting partnership of Lennon and McCartney. Paul said:

“Sometimes we write them on old pianos or anything that’s lying around, guitars and things. Normally we sit down and try and bash one out.”

McCartney and Lennon also recalled their first meeting. John said:

“I was playing at a garden fete in the village where I lived just outside Liverpool playing with a skiffle group and he came along and that’s how we met.”

When asked how the boys liked the hysterical fans going crazy over them, Paul said:

“We love that … the atmosphere in the theatres, really it’s marvellous.”

We all know how that changed after awhile.

Bowie Signs Petition Against T-Rex Tribute Band

Monday, June 30th, 2008

David Bowie

Stars including David Bowie have signed a petition against a T-Rex tribute group marketing itself as the long-gone Seventies band.

The impersonating band have called themselves T-Rex. Now a petition to halt the band has been signed by 500 people including rocker David Bowie, former T-Rex drummer Bill Legend, and record producer Tony Visconti, who worked with T-Rex in the studio.

Visconti says,

“For a bunch of old guys to go around calling themselves T-Rex is outrageous. The only link they have to the original is through one member, Paul Fenton, a second drummer with T-Rex for a short period of time. This sets a dangerous precedent. What’s next? When Paul McCartney dies, will a group emerge calling themselves The Beatles?”

The manager of the tribute band, Barry Newby says,

“This band was created to perform Marc Bolan’s great songs. We never had any intention to upset anyone. We perform, in our opinion, the most dynamic T-Rex show in the world.”

No New Tom Petty/Heartbreakers Album Any Time Soon

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers are touring this summer without a new album or anything else to promote. Guitarist Mike Campbell said,

“It just seemed like a good summer to go out and play”.

Campbell also says that it may be a while before we hear any new music from the band.

“We’re gonna do our tour this summer and then take a couple years off to write the next album. We’d like to make a really great album this time and take our time with the songs”.

Petty, meanwhile, says that the Heartbreakers are as strong and together as ever these days.

“I still hear rumors all the time that we’re breaking up,” he says. “I don’t know where they come from. It’s just a really great surprise to find out you can get better as you get older. If you take care of yourself and care a lot about what you’re doing, there’s no end to it, I don’t think. I think you can keep improving, and if we don’t, we’ll stop.”

Ringo’s Cancelled Concert- An Update

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Government red tape, and not a broken-down truck as previously reported, was the real reason behind the cancellation of the Ringo Starr All-Starr Band show in Bethel, New York, according to Edgar Winter. Winter, who is playing on the tour with Starr, explained,

“What I heard was that there was some kind of bond that you’re supposed to put up for the equipment going across (the border) and there was some like, new form — it’s just some ridiculous technicality that somebody decided to enforce. They decided to hold up their truck. It’s always like, the luck of the draw, you know, when you’re going through customs; are they going to be easy, or are they going to be tough?”

That’s so true, you just never know. A lot depends on the mood of the particular border officer. They can be really nit-picky if they choose to be.

Ringo Starr’s Birthplace Will Not Be Granted Listed Status

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Ringo Starr

Well, it’s official. After months of debating the issue, Ringo’s birthplace of 9 Madryn Street, Liverpool, (featured in his latest single ‘Liverpool 8′) will not be granted “Listed” status. Last year, someone made an application to have his home listed (meaning a place that had historical meaning) because it was under consideration to be demolished for plans to renovate the old neighbourhood. As much as I love Ringo, I do understand the reason behind the decision.

A report said:

“It is not associated with the band as a performance, practice or recording venue, or where they lived or composed as a band”

Paul McCartney and John Lennon’s childhood homes are part of the National Trust tour, which means they’re open to the public for viewing and tours are conducted there on a daily basis. If you ever visit Liverpool, they are a must see. You will hear details of some of the Beatles songs that were composed there, and actually see the spots where they were sitting when those songs came to be. A goose bump inducing experience if there ever was one!

Ringo to Sell Art Work for Charity

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Ringo Starr will be selling some of his own artwork to raise money for a charity known as the Lotus Foundation. Anyone ever hear of that one? The sale will take place starting tomorrow at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, Florida. Each item will be hand-signed by Ringo, plus anyone who buys $2950 worth of stuff will receive a free ticket to Ringo and the All Stars’ show on July 3 at the hotel. In addition, those same folks, who obviously have deep pockets if they are willing to cough up that kind of moola, will have the opportunity to meet Ringo at a VIP reception earlier in the day. Wow….a free ticket plus the “opportunity” to meet Ringo! How generous! I’m sure they’ll be lining up for miles for that one.
