Judy Collins Sings The Beatles

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Singer Judy Collins has recently released a new album, consisting solely of Beatles tunes. After seeing Paul McCartney play Madison Square Garden a few years ago, she was so enamoured of him that she felt she wanted to record some of the Beatles music herself. Good choice, Judy! She studied the songs extensively to learn the ways they were put together, discovering an oddity about them….

“The Beatles’ songs are all short, compact works. I never realized how odd they are - not bad odd, but unexpected in the way they’re put together.”

It also seems that we’re not the only ones blown away by the Lads from Liddy…

“These songs are not only great to play live; no matter where you are, everybody knows and loves them,” says the singer, who just returned from a tour of the Pacific Rim nations, including Korea and Japan. “It’s really remarkable.”

She’s also going to include their music in a performance she’s giving at New York City’s Town Hall this Friday. I think it’s great that someone of Judy’s caliber is paying reverance to the Beatles.

Paul McCartney By Far One Of Our Finest Human Beings!

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Paul McCartney

Natalie Portman who played in McCartney’s Dance Tonight video said the following:

“He is by far one of our finest human beings - an icon to people and still a really good guy. I saw him treat everyone with the utmost respect and love. I can’t say enough about him. He’s a miracle of a person.”

Couldn’t agree with her more! Paul is definitely one of our finest human beings!

Three Volume Biography of The Beatles In Works

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Author and Beatles historian Mark Lewisohn is in the process of writing a 3 volume biography of The Fabs, with the first volume due to hit bookshelves in 2010. Mr. Lewisohn has undertaken the mind boggling 17 year project for a few reasons, one of which being that he’s dissatisfied with some of the works already out there, siting their quality and accuracy. Researching this project has been no small task, as he’s been going through hundereds of original documents and interviewing scores of people that have lived through that period. All aspects of each individual Beatle will be covered in depth, going back to the family backgrounds of each of them, as well as writing in depth about the city of Liverpool, and how it was at the time of the Beatles rise to fame. Says Mr. Lewisohn…

“To me, it’s crucial this is understood. These won’t be books saying ‘Hey weren’t the Beatles great!’ They’ll be thorough, balanced, comprehensive histories.”

This ought to be quite an impressive collection for all dyed-in-the wool Beatle fans out there. Maybe I’ll add it to my collection of Beatles books, but first I guess I should tackle what I already have sitting in my bookcase. so many to choose from!

Stella McCartney Collection to Be Showcased

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

Stella McCartney will be showcasing her latest fashion collection in the city of Liverpool, it has been reported. The showing will take place the same day her dad, Sir Paul, will be performing his Liverpool Sound gig at Anfield. So it looks as though the famous father and daughter will both be very busy on June 1st. I would imagine that Stella didn’t schedule her event for the same time as her dad’s!

David Bowie’s Music to Hit London Theatre Scene

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

David Bowie

Finally, after all these years, David Bowie’s extraordinary music is being developed into a stage production. The 1976 movie, The Man Who Fell to Earth, will be produced for London’s West End by director Peter Schaufuss. Even though Ziggy had been approached before about turning his music into a play, he scoffed the ideas because he was afraid the productions wouldn’t do him justice.

I say smart man! I’m glad he’s finally found a vehicle he can be comfortable with, and I wish him much success in this new endeavor. Oooh, I can’t wait to see this, someday!

Mills “Most Hated”

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Heather Mills

Guess who was voted “Most Hated Personality in the United Kingdom”? That’s right, none other than gold-digger Heather Mills. She is certainly most deserving of this honor (dishonor). Alternately,  the witch’s ex-husband Paul McCartney was voted “most loved”.

I think that it’s highly likely that the low-life witch would win the prize for “Most Hated Personality On Earth” at this point.

Custodian of John Lennon’s Childhood Home Wins Award

Friday, May 16th, 2008

John Lennon

Colin Hall, the man who tends to the care and upkeep of Mendips, John Lennon’s childhood home in Liverpool, has won a radio award.  Mr. Hall researched information for the radio show “The Day John Met Paul”.  The DJ who wrote this show, Bob Harris, got inspired after visiting Mendips in 2006.   Mr. Hall’s extensive research and interviews with Paul McCartney and The Quarrymen helped him to achieve this honor.

This must’ve been such an awesome project to work on!  Congratulations go out to Colin.

Paul McCartney Chats Up Fan in Department Store

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Paul McCartney

Falling under the category of “Awww, how cute!”, my hero Sir Paul had a chat with a woman and her baby in a department store in Liverpool recently, even sharing some of his chocolate candy with the little girl. Seems though a woman was shopping in the men’s department and spotted Paul but couldn’t quite place him. For a moment she thought he was her mother’s neighbor! Hmmm, maybe that woman needs to see an optician, and pronto! Anyway she soon came to her senses and realized it was THE Paul McCartney and approached him for an autograph. Paul couldn’t have been any nicer she says…

“He was really, really lovely and friendly. He picked Vinnie up and Vinnie even shared his white chocolate buttons with him.”

Now doesn’t that just make you want to say “Awww, how cute!”
